CUCURBITA

The Mantua pumpkin, once a plant symbol of the rural tradition of my country. Find again a “noble” connotation; living skin or refined cladding of a handmade object, the which essence is made up of simple materials such as wood fiber composite panels.The surface built is the culmination of careful research: a natural product, produced by the mixture of starch, sugar and pumpkin. The fixing to the panel takes place by means of chains of starches between fibers of pumpkin and porosity of the wood, thus avoiding the use of adhesives.The reflection wants to explore new processes and finishes applied to furniture, in order to re-establish a ontological relationship between man and object.

PANIEPESCI/SAN FILIPPO

• A chair, like so many other things, would not stand up were it not propped up on the mists of an idea, if the contained did not transcend the container thus shifting the level of projection, if the creative hyperbole did not communicate with that which we could define as a vertical rising towards the unknown, as if a miracle could be made practical, real and universal. PANIEPESCI is both ambivalent and evasive, a rationalised enigma that becomes a formal fulcrum between the esoteric nature of spiritual reference and the systematic esotericism of design, that elusive moment in which different tensions dissolve weightlessly into a harmonic synthesis. In this project the iconographic references to the Saint are precise: from the colours used to recall the multiplication of the loaves

• and fishes – the golden grain and the blue of the water – to the emblematic use of the number five, directly linked to the figure of Philip and to the wounds on the body of Christ on the cross and thus synonymous with Divine Grace. Since simplicity is the hardest thing to reproduce aesthetically: “Where can we buy bread in order that they can eat?” The obvious, yet baffling, banality of such a question creates an upward poetic tension, a celestial levitation that gradually lightens the solidity of wood until it dissolves into ethereal impalpability; and thus a chair stands up, immediately hesitating in a masked prospective, de-structured in squares but at the same time, repositioned in the fixed, organic order of a small, confidential votive architecture.

It is a bread basket that embraces tradition and the new horizons of technology, a contrast between artificial material and its content. The inspiration comes from the formal merger of the classic bread basket of straw and the sieve, objects that refer to rural life.The essential lines want to emphasize the passage of time, using the technology of 3D Printing, we have created an object that speaks of the past with an look to the future.I’m fascinated by an object so simple because it combines a story that has been handed down for centuries and the bread is in its unchanged essence point of reference.Trattoria as a container of democratic cultures and stories, linking between old and new generations.
